About

I have come to wonder if what Hillel would say today were he to stand on one foot is “What is hateful to you, design a society so no one does that to anyone else.  I’m speaking to you and you and you and please keep in mind people have different preferences.  All the rest is commentary.  Go and learn.”

I read the Torah with a lense that asks “What does this teach us about the type of society G-d expects us to create?”  I believe our collective understanding of G-d’s intention evolves, and with this blog I seek to participate in a small way in the eternal conversation begun thousands of years ago when humans first began to speak.

A Principal’s Torah is a collection of observations about the weekly parshot that reflects years of experience working in schools.  Schools share characteristics with societies.  Social, academic, physical, emotional, safety, adult learning, external pressures, identity, teaching, leadership, conflict and resolution, all are dimensions at play any given day.  My experiences in schools are a prism which refracts Torah’s light; a forest from which I view the clearing where Torah grows.
